Agnes Chow is a Hong Kong politician and social activist. She is a former member of the Demosisto political party.

Chow was born in December 1996 in Hong Kong. She enrolled at the Holy Family Canossian College. Later, Chow studied government and international relations at the Hong Kong Baptist University.

Furthermore, Agnes Chow’s social activism began when she was around 15. She was a former spokesperson of Scholarism. As an activist, she raised her voice against implementing the Moral and National Education scheme.

Chow also raised her voice in different works, such as advocating for electoral reform in Hong Kong. She co-founded and became the Demosisto political party memebr in 2016.

Moreover, Chow was the first deputy secretary-general of the Party. She was also elected as a member of the Legislative Council in the 2016 Legislative Council election.

Agnes Chow Scandal

As a social activist and politician, Agnes faced several scandals in the course of her career. There are many people who want to talk about Agnes Chow scandal.

Agnes Chow was arrested on 3 August 2019 at her residence in Tai Po. She was accused of allegedly participating in and encouraging an unauthorized assembly at Wan Chai Hong Kong police Headquarters the same year on 21 June.

Furthermore, Agnes was released the same day but was later sentenced to 10 months in prison after she pleaded guilty.

Agnes was imprisoned at the medium-security Lo Wu Correctional Institution. Later, she was reported to be shifted to the maximum security at the Tail Lam Centre for Women.

Along with Agnes Chow, Joshua Wong, co-founder of Demosisto, and many other pro-democracy figures were also arrested.

Later, Agne Chow’s Party, Demosisto, dissolved after Beijing passed sweeping national security laws in 2020. Chow was released from bail on 12 June 2021 after she spent nearly seven months in prison.

Agnes Chow Controversy: Where Is She Now?

Agnes Chow had to be imprisoned for many months. Chow was a pro-democracy activist. She was a part of many pro-democracy movements in Hong Kong.

Chow was found guilty of participating in and inciting unauthorized assembly in 2019. Many senior leaders of many countries responded against China’s actions and sentencing of young social activists.

After the release, Agne Chow remained away from the spotlight. In 2023, she recently revealed on social media that she had moved to Canada and decided to stay there. She is studying, and it is likely tha she will never return home.

After the release, it was not easy for Chow as she had to follow many bail procedures. She was not engaged in any public activities and had to do regular check-ins with authorities.

Furthermore, Agnes Chow had to have frequent interactions with the police. She feels her freedom was restricted, affecting her mental health. She remained away from the spotlight and avoided contact with her close friends.

Recently, on Instagram, Chow said she is in Toronto. She left Hong Kong in September to study at a University in Canada. In an interview, she said she was considering for asylum in Canada.

Overall, Agnes Chow was famous for her Pro-Democracy moment and social activist works. But her imprisonment and bail procedures have mentally affected her. She is in Canada, and it seems she will never return to her home in Hong Kong.
