Despite NYPD community affairs officers’ reminders, Queen Jean continued using her megaphone while leading the march from Washington Square Park to MacDougal Street towards West 3rd Street. This defiance ultimately led to her arrest.
Following the order to arrest her for using a sound device without a permit, Jean sought refuge in a local deli. NYPD officers and supporters followed her inside.
Police subsequently codified the area, and after a tense standoff, Jean was arrested and escorted to a police van. Her arrest prompted chants of “let her go” from the crowd, further igniting the passion of the rally participants.
