Shervin Hajipour Arrested: What Did Iranian Singer Do?
Shervin Hajipour has been accused of “propaganda against the system” and “inciting people to violent crimes” for his song Baraye, which has become an anthem for the ongoing protests in Iran after the murder of a 22-year-old woman in Police custody.
On September 29, 2022, two days after the publication of “Baraye,” Hajipour was arrested.
Hajipour’s lawyer, Majid Kaveh, stated on Twitter on October 9 that his client was momentarily imprisoned before being freed on bail and barred from leaving the country.
The song Baraye, which loosely translates as “because of,” is inspired by the public outpouring of rage in the aftermath of Mahsa Amini’s murder in Police custody on September 16.
Iran’s morality Police jailed her for reportedly unlawfully wearing a head scarf.
Amini’s name has become a rallying cry against decades of official prejudice and abuse since her murder.
Before it was taken from Instagram, the song had received over 40 million views in less than 48 hours.

The musician, who security agents detained in Tehran on September 29, based the song on tweets written by Iranians following Amini’s death.
Many tweets blame the ecclesiastical system for the country’s social, economic, and political issues.
Hajipour, 25, rose to fame recently against the backdrop of the song “Baraye” “For,” which was acclaimed for his pop music and creativity.
The song’s lyrics were inspired by tweets in which Twitter users stated why they were protesting.
Shervin was arrested on two charges of propaganda activities and inciting people to commit violent acts against the government.
