Nathan Vikatos, 45 Year Old Allegedly Stabbed A Three-Year-Old Boy

Tragedy struck the quiet suburb of Riverwood in southwest Sydney when a three-year-old boy was stabbed to death in a local apartment. The incident is believed to be a domestic violence-related attack. 

Likewise, the incident has shocked the community and left authorities searching for answers. The alleged perpetrator, 45-year-old Nathan Vikatos, remains in the hospital recovering from self-inflicted wounds.

The devastating discovery was made by the police on Wednesday afternoon. They had responded to a concern for welfare call and arrived at the Riverwood unit around 4 pm.

Inside the apartment, they found the lifeless body of the young boy and Vikatos, who was critically injured due to self-inflicted wounds.

Immediate medical attention was provided to Vikatos at the scene, and he was subsequently taken into custody.

Superintendent Sheridan Waldau of the Homicide Squad expressed the gravity of the situation, stating that the incident appeared to be a horrific domestic violence case. According to the police, the deceased boy’s mother had died a few years ago.

Since then, he had been living with Mr. Vikatos and one of his female relatives, who made the distressing call to the police. Mr. Vikatos’s partner is cooperating with the authorities in their investigation.

The Riverwood apartment complex has now been designated as a crime scene, with the Homicide Squad actively involved in the ongoing inquiries. Supt Waldau acknowledged the tragic nature of the incident, extending condolences to the family.

She emphasized the prevalence of domestic violence in society, stating that they respond to approximately 140,000 such incidents each year, unfortunately culminating in some cases of homicide.

Jodie Harrison, the Prevention of Domestic Violence Minister, expressed shock and sadness over the child’s death. She offered her heartfelt condolences to the family and friends affected by the tragedy.

During Question Time in parliament, she highlighted the recent occurrence of two horrendous incidents involving domestic violence, including the death of 34-year-old Tatiana Dokhotaru.

Danny Zayak has been charged with multiple domestic violence-related offenses concerning her case. Minister Harrison emphasized that ending gender inequality and gender-based violence is a collective responsibility.

She called on every citizen to contribute to the fight against domestic and family violence. The impact of these heinous acts on families and the community is devastating, and society must address the issue with determination.

“As long as tolerance of violence against women and children continues in our community, the battle to overcome the daily scourge of domestic and family violence will be an uphill one,” Minister Harrison said.

The tragic incident in Riverwood is a stark reminder of the urgent need to address domestic violence. It is essential to support victims, raise awareness about the signs of abuse, and foster a society that refuses to tolerate violence.
