Matt Brewer was a talented musician recognized for his virtuoso bass talents. Brewer has risen to prominence in the jazz and modern music industries because of a lifelong love of music.
While learning about jazz from his father, he began studying classical bass from two world-renowned bass professors, Winston Budrow and Lawrence Hurst.
Brewer has performed on stages at several prestigious New York venues, as well as at jazz festivals across the world. His profound sense of groove, harmonic mastery, and melodic originality enchant audiences.

On Wednesday, June 14, 2023, Matthew Barrett Brewer, 33, was murdered in a horrific motorcycle accident in Slidell, Louisiana.
According to preliminary postmortem findings, no narcotics or alcohol were utilized.
He was wearing a helmet and wasn’t speeding when he was hit by a car driven by Miss Shelby Fritscher, his college sweetheart and best friend of 13 1/2 years, who happened to be watching the occurrence.
Matt appeared to have passed out while riding, drifting into oncoming traffic, through tall weeds, and running unhindered into a now-cursed post without slowing down or setting the bike down.
The last word. The date was May 19, 1990. He was baptized, had the first communion, and was confirmed in Nashville’s Cathedral of the Incarnation.
He attended Overbrook School and had a Dominican education from kindergarten to eighth grade.
After graduating high school at Father Ryan, he received multiple art prizes. He later admitted that he was lured to the school’s golf course.
He was a member of a two-time state championship wrestling team; Matt attended Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, the alma mater of his maternal grandpa, George “Citizen” Barrett.

Matt’s family said,’ He was never many things, yet he was everything to us. Son, brother, cousin, nephew, friend, teacher, student, travel companion, outdoorsman extraordinaire, and passionately devoted to his Miss Shelby and their two four-legged children, Beeze and Zeita.
Matthew belongs to numerous people. His surviving family members include but are not limited to, his greatest love, Miss Shelby Fritscher of Slidell, LA, his parents, Mary and Mark Brewer of Nashville, and his sisters Sarah Kate Hirst (Charlie, Louis, and Brewer) of Huntington Beach, CA, and Betsy Lane Raney (Aaron) of Nashville.
The family invites everyone to his Funeral Mass at The Cathedral of the Incarnation on Friday, June 23, at 10:00 am, followed by an Irish Wake at their home in Nashville. Sunglasses are recommended. Matthew, best wishes. I’ll see you shortly. P
