Lucia Mantione was born on 22 March 1942 in Montedora. She was known more by the name Luciedda.
Mantione was born into a low-income family. Her father was a sulfur miner. Because of the financial problem, she dropped out of school after primary school and began helping her family.
Furthermore, Lucia was tall, beautiful, and gorgeous. One of her friends describes her, saying she had two beautiful braids, and perhaps that was a reason many people used to fall in love with her.
Lucia was a lovely young lady. She was naive and disciplined and did not participate or give rise to gossip and talk.
After dropping out of school, Lucia used to help her mother clean the houses in the village. She used to play peacefully with her friends.
Lucia’s village was peaceful, and no violent incident ever happened in the area. But in January 1955, suddenly Lucia Mantione went missing, creating worries and fear in her family and neighbors.

On 6 January 1955, Montedora was peaceful as usual. It was already a late afternoon, but small children were still playing football together in a small square.
