He was 65 years old. His death came suddenly on Monday evening due to a cardiac event. As stated by the district, the entire Lobo community is shocked and saddened by this unexpected loss.
Dr. James Wilcox, the Superintendent of LISD, expressed that James Brewer’s legacy will always be a source of inspiration at Longview Independent School District.
He will be remembered as an exceptional educator, a caring leader, and a beloved community member.
Even though he is no longer with us, his impact will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of all those he influenced throughout his impressive career.
Brewer was about to begin his 17th year working at Longview High School, and the district stated that he devoted his entire life to education.
LISD described Brewer as an outstanding leader, mentor, and a dear friend to everyone who knew him.
In response to this tragic incident, the high school will offer counseling services and assistance to students and staff members to help them deal with the situation.

James Brewer was born in Magnolia, Arkansas, on January 8, 1958. He was the third child of seven, with six brothers and one sister.
His mother, Earnestine, took care of the children on her own. Similarly, James graduated from Magnolia High School in 1976 & earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Southern Arkansas University in 1980.
He also obtained a Master of Engineering in Commerce from Texas A&M University. Brewer spent 40 years working in Texas Education, dedicating his entire career to it. He worked as the Superintendent of DeKalb Independent School District for ten years.
