Griselda Hernandez and son Dominick Alexander Hernandez were murdered on April 9, 2018, at Father McNaboe Park.
Ronald Anthony Burgos-Aviles was declared responsible for committing a grave crime called capital murder.
He was found guilty of causing the deaths of Grizelda Hernandez, who was 27 years old, and their 1-year-old son Dominic Alexander Hernandez. This happened on April 9, 2018.
The prosecution argued that Burgos-Aviles killed Hernandez and their son because he became furious when she told him she was pregnant with someone else’s child.
On the other hand, the defense argued that Burgos-Aviles should be considered not guilty due to insanity. They claimed that he had post-traumatic stress disorder because of his previous job as a Border Patrol agent.
The jury found Burgos-Aviles guilty of both charges of capital murder, and he now faces the possibility of receiving the death penalty. The punishment phase of the trial is expected to continue for several days.

A former U.S. Border Patrol supervisor was found guilty of murdering his girlfriend and young son at Father McNaboe Park in April 2018.
Ronald Anthony Burgos-Aviles was found guilty of committing two serious crimes: killing a child under ten years old and killing multiple people.
He was responsible for the deaths of his girlfriend, Grizelda Hernandez, who was 27 years old, and their 1-year-old son Dominic Alexander Hernandez on April 9, 2018.
During the closing arguments, District Attorney Isidro R. “Chilo” Alaniz reminded the jurors of his promise to seek truth & justice based on the evidence presented.
He expressed confidence in the jurors’ ability to make the right decision by using their common sense and carefully reviewing the evidence and testimony from the witnesses.
Additionally, according to Alaniz, the district attorney, Burgos-Avilés used his knowledge and training as a law enforcement agent to commit a very well-planned crime in a bushy area.
Alaniz explained that Grizelda Hernandez was brutally attacked with a knife and received 27 stab wounds. He described the injuries on her head, shoulders, and arms, emphasizing that she was stabbed so many times that her appearance was almost unrecognizable.
After Burgos-Aviles finished attacking Grizelda, he allegedly took the baby out of his car seat. The baby wore a green T-shirt with Baby Yoda and the words “Lucky, I am.”
Further, he stated that what Burgos-Aviles did to the baby was shocking and hard to imagine. Allegedly, he took the baby to a wooded area near the river.
Under a Huisache tree, Burgos-Aviles lifted the baby’s shirt and stabbed him. However, like his mother, the baby showed great strength and didn’t die immediately.
Alaniz further claimed that Burgos-Aviles held the knife to the baby’s throat and cut his jugular vein, causing his death.
