Suicide Of Astro Moonbin: Death Explained

Moonbin, a 25-year-old K-pop star and member of the boy band Astro, has died, according to his music label Fantagio.

Moonbin was found unresponsive on Wednesday evening in his apartment in the upscale Gangnam neighborhood of Seoul, according to local media reports citing the Police.

The artist’s cause of death has not been disclosed, and the statement from Fantagio did not provide any information about it.

The artist’s death was announced on Thursday, April 20, 2023, in a statement posted in Korean on Fantagio’s official Twitter page.

The statement requested that everyone “refrain from speculative and malicious reports” so that Moonbin’s family could pay their respects in privacy.

Moonbin, who performed as Moonbin, was an Actor and model before debuting with Astro in February 2016.

He was a member of the Astro group and performed with a subgroup called Moonbin & Sanha.

The lead joined the Fantagio label’s trainee program at an early age. The group was originally six performers, but one member left in February 2023.

Moonbin’s death is the latest in a series of young K-pop stars who have died in recent years.

In November 2019, Goo Hara, a former member of the girl group Kara, died by suspected suicide after being abused by an ex-boyfriend who blackmailed her over their sex videos.

In 2018, Minwoo, a member of the boy band 100%, died at home, with his label only saying he had suffered cardiac arrest.

Just over three months earlier, the lead singer of SHINee, Jonghyun, died by suspected suicide.
