The 12-year-old girl was her parents’ guiding star. She was a Scout, a scuba diver, a ballerina, and a brilliant and talented student.
Smither vanished in a flash. Laura asked her mother if she may go running before breakfast on the morning of April 3, 1997, and her mother agreed. The child, who was 12 years old, was unaware of what would happen to her.
After Laura’s parents called the Police after she didn’t come home from her jog, the community and law enforcement quickly organized to look for the 12-year-old.
Even after extensive searching, nobody was able to locate Laura. Her body was discovered in a muddy location close to a storage reservoir in Pasadena on April 20.

Laura Smither’s parents are Bob and Gay. When their little daughter died, her parents’ lives were destroyed.

However, Willian Reece was found guilty of killing Tiffany Johnston in 2015 and admitted to killing Laura, Jessica, and Kelli.

Where Are Laura Smither Parents Now?
While there isn’t any information about Laura’s Father, Bob, her mother, Gay Smither, regularly attended the Texas trial and expressed relief when the murderer was given a life sentence in jail.
Although the sentencing did little to lessen her grief over losing Laura, she insisted that her daughter reports to the authorities because the offender is in jail and ready to be executed.
He is cut off from the outside world and awaiting his life’s end. She does, however, add that she has already forgiven William since they need to do so to move on after their daughter’s passing.

A non-profit organization called Laura Recovery Center works to prevent kidnappings and assists families in finding their abducted children.
The Texas Center for the Missing and other groups with similar missions have worked together with the Laura Recovery Center to date with good results.
Gay Smither, a native of Friendswood, Texas, is allegedly still the co-founder and president of the Laura Recovery Center despite having retired from her career in 2007.
Despite losing her daughter, she never gave up, and her daughter got justice. If Laura Smither’s parents had given up, perhaps the matter would have been concluded by this point, and she would not receive justice.
