A tragic vehicular accident on U.S. Highway 190, 3.5 miles north of Hearne, Texas, claimed the lives of two siblings, Wesley and Maegan Sanders, on the 2nd of December, 2019.

The news of their untimely demise has cast a pall of sorrow over the communities of Lexington and Laredo, where the Sanders siblings resided. Wesley Sanders, 19, was a resident of Lexington, Texas.

The unfortunate sequence of events leading to the Sanders siblings’ tragic end unfolded around 6:00 pm on that fateful Sunday. Wesley and Maegan were traveling in a 2019 Ford SUV, heading south on U.S. Highway 190.

Connor Lowen, a 19-year-old from Arlington, was driving a 2005 model Infinity in the same direction when his vehicle inadvertently clipped the rear corner of the Sanders’ Ford SUV.

This minor contact had significant repercussions, sending the Ford swerving into the oncoming traffic lane. Coming from the opposite direction was a 2019 Tesla driven by 25-year-old Douglas Leighton of Tyler.

Unable to avoid the Ford that had veered into his path, a head-on collision ensued. The impact of this collision was devastating. Wesley and Maegan Sanders bore the brunt of the collision and died at the scene.

The tragic news of their deaths was a shocking revelation to their families and the communities they belonged to. Douglas Leighton, the driver of the Tesla, suffered significant injuries as a result of the accident.

He was immediately rushed to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple. Connor Lowen, the driver whose minor misjudgment set the tragic events into motion, remarkably emerged from the accident unscathed.

Maegan Sanders Had A Fiance

Following the tragic accident, Maegan and Wesley Sanders lost their lives. It is saddening to know that two young people in their prime are no more. Accidents happen suddenly, and it’s always tragic. Unfortunately, one can never escape their fate, and so was the case for the Sanders siblings.

It has been revealed that Maegan was about to get married to her partner. She had a loving fiance named Cameron Janda. Unfortunately, the lovebirds’ romance was cut short by the tragic incident.

On September 26, 1997, Maegan was born in Bryan, Texas to Scott Ellis and Joan Elizabeth Sanders. In 2015, Maegan received her diploma from Lexington High School.

She was always an academic, therefore, her best achievements were winning the UIL Accounting State Championship and being named the class valedictorian.

Ms. Sanders was enrolled at Texas A&M University’s Mays Business School, where she planned to get bachelor’s degrees in accounting and business honors as well as a master’s degree in management information systems before she graduated in May 2020.

She also participated in Group 27 of the Professional Program in Accounting (PPA) while she was a student at A&M. Maegan had planned to marry her partner while working for Ernst & Young in San Antonio.

Unfortunately, before her marriage plans could be fulfilled, Maegan passed away. Her husband-to-be, Cameron Janda, must have been devasted by the news.

Although it has been several years since the Sanders siblings passed away, the grief and pain of losing their loved ones is still as fresh for the family. Hopefully, they have learned to move alongside the pain at the present.
