Shawn Mitchell Car Accident has profoundly impacted the Lebanon community, particularly his fellow students and faculty members. 

A 17-year-old Warren County Career Center junior was murdered early Monday after his automobile veered off the road and hit a tree.

Wendy Planicka, a spokesperson for Lebanon City Schools, verified the fatality, Shawn Mitchell, was a Lebanese student enrolled in the career center, which provides technical instruction to high school and adult students, on Monday afternoon.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Lebanon Station noted in a press release that the accident is still being investigated.

According to the announcement, Mitchell was traveling south on Hart Road near Miller Road around 3 am when his 2002 Honda Civic ran off the left side of the road.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is now examining the circumstances surrounding Shawn Mitchell’s death.

The tragic and unforgiving event occurred in the early hours of a fateful day on Hart Road near Miller Road in Lebanon. Shawn Mitchell, driving his 2002 Honda Civic, drove off the road to the left and hit a tree. The accident’s impact caused his unfortunate death on the spot.

Lebanon City Schools Director Isaac Seevers announced Mitchell’s death “with a broken heart” in a statement to families with children in the school district Monday evening.

Shawn Mitchell was a bright and motivated young man who attended the Warren County Vocational Center and was active in the sports medicine program. 

Before his stint at the career center, he attended Lebanon High School and participated in wrestling, track, and cross country. 

Shawn, described as brilliant and driven by Lebanon City Schools Administrator Isaac Seevers, had a profound interest in exercise and aspired to be a powerlifter.

Shawn Mitchell’s terrible death has significantly impacted the Lebanon community, notably his classmates and staff members. 

Lebanon City Schools will assist anyone touched by the tragedy, with professionals and counselors accessible at the Lebanon Main Campus and the Middletown Atrium Campus.

Shawn Phillip Mitchell Jr., 17, of Lebanon, Ohio, died in an automobile accident on May 29, 2023. He was born on December 28, 2005, to Jennifer O’Leary and Shawn Mitchell Sr. and moved in with Karen Kinney-Mathy and Jon Mathy in September 2017. 

Shawn was a senior at Warren County Vocational Center and Lebanon High School, majoring in Exercise Science, with plans to join the Air Force following graduation. He was a member of Jr. High Wrestling, The Pop Culture Club, High School Track & Field, and JRROTC.

He worked for The Village Ice Cream Shop. Shawn enjoyed weightlifting, exercising, gaming, creating Tik Toks, all types of music, anime, and scary movies, and he had a broad smile that lit up any room.

Shawn Mitchell Sr., his grandparents Timothy and Gayla O’Leary, and his grandmother Marcia Krusenklaus predeceased him.

Shawn’s visitation will be held on June 8, 2023, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by a service at Noon at New Freedom Church, 840 Miller Road, Lebanon, OH 45036, with Pastor Joe Shutts presiding. Following that, a graveside service will be held at Lebanon Cemetery. 

Instead of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be sent to the New Freedom Youth Group, 840 Miller Road, Lebanon.
