Santiago Gangotena Esposa (wife) Macarena Valarezo is Ecuador’s former beauty queen and politician. The couple got married in 2021.

The wedding was intimate, with only close relatives in attendance, and was celebrated at a large House in Cumbayá. The couple dismissed expensive gifts and enjoyed a restaurant gathering with a DJ and rock band.

Tragically, on Friday, April 21, 2023, Santiago Gangotena, a well-known figure, passed away at age 78. He was struck by a public transport bus while crossing a street, and despite being rushed to the Hospital de Los Valles, he could not be saved.

Santiago Gangotena Esposa (Wife) Macarena Valarezo is a prominent Ecuadorian politician and television host born on June 2, 1972, in Quito, Ecuador.

She completed her primary studies at Colegio Los Pinos, secondary studies at the Isaac Newton School, and obtained a degree in Radio and Television Production from the Cuesta Ordóñez Institute. She also studied marketing at the Universidad del Pacífico and attended various courses and seminars related to politics.

In November 1992, Valarezo won the Queen of Quito beauty pageant and focused on raising funds to construct a building that would later become the Support Project, which houses the Children’s Center Learning to Live.

During her reign, she also provided social assistance to the landslide victims of La Josefina, delivering two thousand kits with clothes, rubber boots, mattresses, and sleeping covers.

Additionally, Valarezo joined Canal Uno’s news staff in 2008, becoming the presenter from the Quito studios. From 2010 to 2012, she was a panelist on the program “Así Somos” of the Ecuavisa chain, where she touched on topics of female debate.

Valarezo was a city councilor of Quito for three consecutive periods, from 2002 to 2014. During her tenure, she opposed the construction of the New Quito Airport, citing irregularities in the contracts and management of Quiport, the Company responsible for the air terminal administration.

Macarena was also the president of the Bullfighting Commission of the Fiestas de Quito in 2010, which caused controversy as shows involving the death of animals were banned throughout the country that year.

In 2012, Valarezo presented the Campaign “The Way to Happiness” with fellow councilor Luisa Maldonado. The Campaign aimed to develop programs for pedagogical, preventive, informative training and training in values.

She was also the creator of the “Comprehensive Safety in School Transportation” project, which set stricter regulations for drivers and the mechanical condition of student vehicles, and the “Safe Passenger Program,” which allows passengers to send a text message to check if the taxi they have taken is safe.

She married Santiago Gangotena, the chancellor of the Universidad San Francisco de Quito, in December 2021. However, Gangotena passed away on April 21, 2023.
