Richard De-Ita death has profoundly impacted the Buffalo Grove High School community, as the tragic incident has left friends, family, and fellow students devastated and grieving.
Buffalo Grove High School reopened on Friday for the first time since four students were murdered in a car accident in Wheeling and an unconnected Fire broke out on campus.
Staff and students gathered together to heal during a Township High School District 214 meeting in Arlington Heights Thursday night, according to CBS 2’s Marissa Perlman.

A minor Fire broke out in a Buffalo Grove High School classroom on Tuesday evening. The same night, Ricky Barcenas, 17, Richard De-Ita, 18, Kevin Hernandez-Teran, 17, and Jesus Rodriguez, 16, of Buffalo Grove High School, were murdered in a car accident in Wheeling.

Richard De-Ita, an 18-year-old student from Wheeling, was arrested. While little is known about Richard’s personal life, it is clear that he was a Buffalo Grove High School community member and was profoundly affected by this horrific catastrophe.
Kevin Hernandez-Teran, 17, was another Buffalo Grove High School student killed in the crash. Jesus Rodriguez, a 16-year-old Buffalo Grove High School student, was also killed in the sad vehicle accident.
The four teenagers were in a sport-utility vehicle when it collided with two other automobiles and a light pole, momentarily shutting out power at Dundee and Schoenbeck roads.

The deaths of Richard De-Ita, Kevin Hernandez-Teran, Jesus Rodriguez, and Ricky Barcenas have left an indelible mark on the Buffalo Grove High School community. Friends, relatives, and other students have been heartbroken and mourning due to the unfortunate tragedy.
“It is with the utmost sorrow that we confirm that four Buffalo Grove High School students were murdered, and one student remains hospitalized, in what authorities are described as a multi-car incident Tuesday night in Wheeling,” said Stephanie Kim, a High School District 214 representative.

Richard De-Ita – Buffalo Grove Students Car Accident Explored
Richard De-Ita, 18, Kevin Hernandez-Teran, 17, and Jesus Rodriguez, 16, were the three victims in the event. The disregard for traffic signals and speed, in the opinion of the Police, appeared to be the cause of the occurrence.
Authorities report that the crash occurred at about 10:19 pm near the intersection of Dundee and Schoenbeck roads. Seven individuals were rescued from the automobiles and sent to local hospitals. The victims were passengers in the principal car involved in the incident.
According to Police, the electricity went out for residences near the incident scene and was restored at 11:20 pm on Tuesday, and cars were advised to take alternate routes because the junction was closed.
According to ABC7, one neighbor heard the accident and stated, “Well, I was down the street, quite near to here, the blast was loud and smashed the light pole, and the electricity went out on this whole block.”
Wheeling Police Chief James Dunne expressed his sympathy to the victim’s families, and social service personnel have been contacted to assist them. He also stated that the investigation was ongoing and that all elements of the incident would be thoroughly investigated.
