According to the Cedar Spring Post, Michael apologized to his adult children and others before his sentence on October 5, 2020, and said that he organized Renee’s murder but that his brother Charles carried it out.
She died due to many knife wounds to her head, face, and chest and defensive wounds to her hands.
There was no evidence to substantiate Michael’s claim that his brother committed the crime, according to Kent County Sheriff’s Office assistant prosecutor Kellee Koncki.
He has to put in at least 25 years of his sentence in jail and won’t be qualified for release until he 80. He is now incarcerated in the Saginaw Correctional Prison in Michigan.

Before his sentencing, Pagel stated that he was guilty of his wife’s murder but that he was not the one who stabbed her to death, according to WZZM13.
“I was insane when I paid my brother… to murder Renee,” Pagel said. “We planned the murder, and he executed it.” Nobody else was present. I am ultimately to blame for her death. And I deeply regret this.”
Where Is Michael Pagel Now? Arrest And Charges
Pagel agreed to a plea agreement, according to WoodTV; he would enter a guilty plea to second-degree murder in 2020 to spare his kids the pain of a protracted and open trial.
Pagel will not be eligible for parole until 2045 since Kent County Circuit Court Judge George J. Quist sentenced him to 25 to 50 years in prison in October 2020.
Pagel, 56, is serving a 25-year minimum term and a maximum of a 50-year sentence for second-degree murder in the Saginaw Correctional Center.
According to public inmate records with the Michigan Department of Prisons, on February 5, 2045, when he will be 80 years old, he will be released.
Pagel is imprisoned in the high-security area of the Saginaw Correctional Institution, which opened in 1993 in Saginaw County, northwest of Detroit.
