At just 15 years, Márquez scored his first podium as part of the KTM Repsol team in the 2008 125cc World Championship.

The racer started gaining recognition in the year 2010 with his pre-season testing. Similarly, he was in the factory Derbi team for the year.

He grasped the attention of the mass public in the 125cc championship, winning 10 of the 17 races on the calendar and becoming a first-time world champion.
