A 24-year-old student, Geovanny Villalba-Aleman, is charged with stabbing three people during a gender studies class at the University of Waterloo in Canada.
Police stated the suspect entered a lecture classroom on Wednesday and used a knife to stab a 38-year-old professor, a 20-year-old female student, and a 19-year-old male student.
Approximately 40 students were in the classroom at the time of the attack, as reported by the police.
After receiving several 911 calls from students at around 3:37 pm, the police arrived within three minutes.
Although the victims sustained severe injuries, they are not considered life-threatening. They are currently receiving treatment at local hospitals, as confirmed by police spokesperson Cherri Greeno.
According to information from the University of Waterloo’s student newspaper, The Imprint, the attacker entered the classroom and inquired about the class topic from the professor.
He then closed the door, took two knives from his backpack, and attacked the professor.
Who Were Waterloo Incident Victims?
A professor aged 38 and two students aged 20 and 19 were the victims of the Waterloo incident.
The professor and the 20-year-old student are female, while the 19-year-old victim is male.
The police have stated that although their injuries are serious, they are not life-threatening.
The students were hurt while trying to help the professor during the attack, as per the police.
On the other hand, Yusuf Kaymak, a student in the class during the incident, shared what happened. He said that around 40 students were in the class at that time.
According to Kaymak, the attacker entered the classroom and asked the professor if he was the professor. When the professor confirmed, the attacker pulled out a knife.
After that, everyone started running out of the room. Kaymak mentioned that he also ran out, and outside, he saw a student who had been stabbed and was bleeding from the arm.
He expressed uncertainty about the condition of the professor.
