A detective revealed disturbing details regarding the killing of Gannon Stauch, an 11-year-old Colorado child reportedly murdered by his stepmother last year.
A prosecution told jurors Monday at the opening of her trial that a Colorado woman understood what she was doing when she shot her little stepson in the head before stabbing him 18 times while traveling across the nation to dump a suitcase containing his remains over a bridge in the Florida Panhandle.

Indeed, according to the autopsy report and crime scene images, the 11-year-old child was shot, stabbed, and beaten to death inside his family’s House in El Paso County, Colorado, in January 2020. Letecia Stauch, his stepmother, has been accused of his murder and is now on trial.

Jason Yoder of the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office in Florida testified about what occurred to Stauch. He was the first witness called at the preliminary hearing as prosecutors plan to charge Letecia Stauch, 36, with murder.
Gannon went missing in Colorado’s El Paso County on January 27, 2020, and a road crew in Florida recovered his remains two months later. According to Colorado source KDVR, Yoder responded to the call after the team discovered the deceased inside a suitcase beneath a bridge in March.
He said in court that when he unzipped the bag, he saw the body of a tiny kid wrapped in blankets. Yoder estimates that the corpse had been in the luggage for roughly a month.
He testified that the youngster had a broken skull, a gunshot wound in the lower left jaw, and knife wounds to the left chest and right back. According to the postmortem report, Gannon sustained 18 sharp force injuries.

According to KXRM, District Attorney Michael Allen requested a six-week trial but added that it might take months. “I believe if it’s quite detailed in its findings and what the foundation for different conclusions would be,” Allen said, “we might have to put on more evidence than we would otherwise have.”
Stauch’s defense counsel had previously expressed worry about the impact of notoriety on jury selection, but Warner stated that “publicity itself is not a reason for removal of a juror.”
Meanwhile, jury selection is ongoing. Due to the case’s popularity and substantial media coverage, the court must narrow a large pool of possible jurors. The selection process will take around two weeks to find 16 jurors for the subsequent trial.
“The question is, it makes no difference what you’ve heard or seen,” the judge remarked. “The question is, can you set it aside and make a decision on the facts?” And if the answer is yes, then what they’ve seen or heard makes no difference.”

At first, Ganon Stauch’s dad was asked to identify his body based on a picture shown in court. After he tearfully identified, District Attorney Michael Allen asked him about his family background.
Per his testimony, Mr. Stauch holds a full-time position in the Army National Guard and has been re-stationed many times. One of his deployments to Alaska had caused a strain on his relationship with his then-missus.
The differences between the choice of lifestyles have also caused problems in the ex-pair’s relationship. But he could have never imagined Leticia to commit such a heinous act. Moreover, Al shared that he started doubting her involvement after discovering her car wasn’t at French Elementary School, where she worked.
When Ganon was reported missing, his dad was training in Oklahoma. Al assumed his little boy likely went to his friend’s house or ran away somewhere. Unfortunately, the reality was more horrific than one can ever imagine.
Reminiscing about his son, Al mentioned how his birthdays and holidays served as stark reminders of how he is no more. He said,
The holidays were tough. Spent some time with a dear family and watching their kids open presents, that kind of made it real.
Although it’s challenging to move on from such an ordeal, Al is doing his best to move forward with his family’s support. The entire Colorado Springs community has helped the Stauch family to their best since the disappearance of Gannon Stauch.
The recent updates on Gannon’s murder case showed the suspect attempting to flee while transporting to Colorado. She has not received final judgment, and the trial is ongoing.
