The Life and Crimes of Iowa Meth Kingpin Dustin Honken: His Redemption and the Untold Story of His Daughter.
The late Dustin Honken, a notorious Iowa drug dealer, gained notoriety for his involvement in kidnapping and murdering five individuals.
Growing up in the small town of Britt, Iowa, Honken had a tumultuous upbringing with an alcoholic Father who was convicted of bank robbery.
In the early 1990s, Honken began dealing marijuana and cocaine before transitioning to cooking meth after studying chemistry at a local community college.
Seeking to expand his operation, Honken moved to Arizona, where he produced meth and distributed his product through two dealers in Mason City, Iowa.
However, in 1993, Honken committed two murders of his associates, setting in motion a violent chain of events that would lead to the deaths of five individuals, including a federal witness, the witness’s girlfriend, her two young daughters, aged 10 and 6, and another potential witness.
A jury ultimately convicted Honken of all five murders, resulting in two death sentences for the girls’ deaths and life imprisonment for the adults’ murders.
After a 17-year hiatus, the U.S. government executed Honken on July 17, 2020, at 52 through lethal injection at the Federal Correctional Complex in Terre Haute, Indiana.

The Iowa meth kingpin, Dustin Honken, had two children – Marvea Honken with his girlfriend Angela Johnson and another child with a different woman, as reported by KSAT.
In 2006, while in prison, Honken expressed a deep regret for failing his children in his journal, stating that he felt a “great crushing weight of despair.”
Despite the media attention surrounding Honken’s criminal activities and execution, very little is known about his children. They have not been in the public spotlight except for a few court hearings.
However, Honken’s lawyer argued before his death that he had redeemed himself during his time in prison, stating, “During his time in prison, he cared for everyone: guards, medical staff, and fellow inmates. Dustin Honken Girlfriend: Who Is Angela Johnson?
A Forest City resident, Angela Johnson had a romantic relationship with one of Honken’s dealers, DeGeus, before dating Honken.
Johnson was born in 1964 and grew up in an unstable household with her religious grandparents.
She had a child from her previous marriage and was carrying Honken’s daughter in her womb at the time of the murders.
Angela was arrested on July 2000.
She and Honken were convicted of drug-related murders, with Angela aiding in the kidnapping and killing of Greg Nicholson, Lori Ann Duncan, her daughters Kandi and Amber Duncan, and Terry DeGeus.
The Court of Appeals described her involvement as “substantial participation in the murders; namely, that she arranged the murder weapon, participated in the hunt of Nicholson, gagged at least one of the victims, and exploited her relationship with DeGeus to lure him to the remote location where he was killed.”
In 2000, Johnson drew a map for a jailhouse informant that led to discovering the victims’ bodies in graves outside Mason City.
In 2005, she was convicted for her involvement in the murder of five individuals in 1993 during a hearing in Cedar Rapids.
Both Johnson and Honken received the death penalty for their crime. Honken’s penalty stood, but Johnsoh’s sentence was eventually reduced to life imprisonment.
