When she was younger, the former Modern Family star, who has Oliver, 15, and twins John and Gustav, 13, with ex-husband Scott Phillips, was always anxious about making errors and being unable to ‘contain’ herself. Her worries caused her to quit eating.
Eating disorders, for example, were not widely acknowledged in the 1980s. “We didn’t speak about anything, and it just seemed… nasty. “And I learned that when you’re starving, you don’t have any sensations,” she explained.

“It’s rather fantastic. ‘We don’t have time for that,’ says the body. “I believe that was a coping method,” she told the talk show host.
During the conversation, she also contrasted her adolescent experience with her current teenage boys. “It’s odd since I have three sons who are all so different.
But I notice One of them looks a lot like me, and I recognize him. Always wanting to color between the lines and achieve an A+,” she added, referring to her children Oliver, 15, and twins John and Gustav, 13.
“And I believe [as a teen] I perceived being untidy or making errors or having an a- or like fat spilling out of the top of your trousers [as] a message that you couldn’t contain yourself. You were too much and being decently required to remain within limits.
