A video of Cynthia Villar has gone viral online, where she can be seen confronting a private security guard and his superior for placing barriers on the road in Las Piñas that she had previously cleared of informal settlers.
The six-minute, 32-second video Jc Dela Cruz World uploaded on Facebook has received mixed reactions from netizens.
Some supported Villar’s actions, and others condemned her behavior toward the two individuals.
According to Philstar, Villar’s office has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
The video posted 15 hours ago, has garnered 2.8 million views, 56,000 reactions, and 19,000 comments as of last night.
In the video, Villar can be seen holding onto the guard’s arm while the latter’s superior appeals to the senator not to harm his team member. Villar denies hurting the guard and orders the man to leave.
Villar exclaimed, “I am not causing any harm to your guard. You leave this place! You know I cleared all the informal settlers from here without getting anything in return, and now you are acting as you please?”
She then said in Filipino, “I am not harming your guard. Why is he gay that I can hurt him?”
Not only that, she has been involved in many other controversies.
Criticisms against Villar include her involvement in the Manila Bay rehabilitation project, accused of causing environmental damage and displacement of fisherfolk communities.
She also faced backlash for authoring the Rice Tariffication Law, blamed for the influx of cheap rice imports and affecting local rice farmers.
Additionally, she faced a conflict of interest allegations due to her family’s business involvement in government projects, with calls for investigation in 2020.
