The Cessnock community was left in shock when a 21-year-old mother of two, identified as Caitlin Rose Thornton, was found unconscious on March 11, 2023.
She was rushed to the hospital but sadly passed away after three days.
Police suspected suicide and alleged that she may have been a victim of domestic violence.

Caitlin Rose Thornton Death And Obituary: Was She Murdered?
The 21-year-old Cessnock resident, Caitlin Thornton, was discovered unconscious in the backyard of a home in the Hunter region of New South Wales on March 8, 2023, at approximately 8:30 pm.
She was immediately taken to John Hunter Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries three days later.
Thornton was a beautician and lash technician and a devoted mother of two.
Initially, the New South Wales Police suspected Thornton’s death may have been a suicide due to a suspected self-harm incident.
Specialist forensic Police examined her body, and an investigation was launched shortly after.
The investigation suggested that the incident was not suspicious and unlikely to be a murder.
However, Thornton’s mother raised concerns that her daughter was not the type of person to take her own life.
Upon further research, it was discovered that Thornton was starting a new life as a single mother and setting up her eyelash business in the same week.
Despite these findings, authorities still believe that she committed suicide, and there is no concrete evidence to suggest otherwise. The investigation into her death is ongoing.
Caitlin Rose Thorton Children And Family: Who Was Her Ex-partner?
Caitlin Thornton was a talented beautician and lash technician and a devoted mother to two young boys aged 12 months and two years old.
Kylie Thornton’s mother spoke of her daughter’s love and devotion to her children. “She had a great routine for her kids – she cared about them. She would have taken them to the park every day. She was a beautiful mom,” she said.
Tragically, Caitlin was caught in an abusive relationship with her ex-partner, Alex Passfield, before her death.
Her mother claimed there were photographs of the injuries, medical reports, eyewitnesses in the street, and a video statement made by Caitlin at the Police station.
Alex had reportedly told Caitlin to end her life. However, the domestic violence case has been dropped as Caitlin is no longer here to testify.
Following her untimely passing, a GoFundMe page was launched to raise money for her funeral and her son’s future education. So far, it has raised an impressive $16,159.
The loss of Caitlin has deeply saddened her family and friends. Her mother hopes that justice will be served for her daughter and that others will be protected from domestic violence.
“I want justice for my daughter. She didn’t deserve to die like this. Nobody deserves that. Nobody deserves domestic violence,” she said.
“She is no longer in pain- she is at peace and knew she was loved, cherished and admired,” a person wrote, mourning the loss of Caitlin.
