Voight investigates Olinsky’s death and seeks revenge.

The character ends up killing Olinsky’s murderer in a revenge quest.

Then-showrunner Rick Eid gave an interview with TV Line, saying:

It was a decision evolving organically from the ongoing storyline between Voight and Woods. From a creative perspective, the writers and I kept sticking to the idea that Voight’s decision to kill Bingham should mean him something.

As Voight admired and loved Olinsky so much, we knew over time to land on the notion that Olinsky should be the one to pay for Voight’s sin.

The former showrunner said that the decision was extremely hard for him and the others as they think of Elias as a terrific Actor and a good person.

From a business perspective, the idea may have worked for a certain time but lost a loyal fan base who kept the character near and dear to their hearts.
